Espresso Coffee Machines

Espresso coffee machines are the heart of the specialty coffee world — capable of producing the concentrated, flavour-intense shots that form the base of lattes, flat whites, cappuccinos and long blacks. Choosing the right espresso machine comes down to your skill level, how much control you want over the brewing process, and your budget.

Our range covers heat exchanger (HX) machines for simultaneous brewing and steaming, dual boiler machines for independent temperature control, and PID-equipped models for precision extraction. Brands like Bezzera, ECM, Profitec, Rancilio and Lelit offer different balances of performance, aesthetics and value.

Every espresso machine performs best with a quality burr grinder — browse our coffee grinders to find the right match. For the best value, explore our machine and grinder packages which pair popular machines and grinders together. Don't forget the essentials: a good espresso tamper, milk jug, and knock bin to complete your home setup.

All machines are available online or at our Woolloongabba Brisbane showroom with expert advice and hands-on demonstrations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between a heat exchanger and a dual boiler espresso machine?

A heat exchanger (HX) machine uses a single boiler with a heat exchange system that lets you brew and steam milk at the same time. A dual boiler machine has two separate boilers — one for brewing and one for steam — giving you independent temperature control over each. HX machines are simpler and often more affordable, while dual boilers offer more precision and are preferred by experienced home baristas who want exact brew temperature control.

For beginners, we recommend starting with a quality single boiler machine like the Rancilio Silvia V6 or Quick Mill Pop-Up both are forgiving, well-built, and easy to learn on. If your budget allows, a heat exchanger machine like the Bezzera BZ10 gives you the ability to brew and steam simultaneously, which makes the morning routine faster as your skills develop. Heat Exchange models also keep your brewing temperature more stable as the boilers are larger giving more thermal stability

Prosumer espresso machines typically range from around $1,300 for a quality single boiler up to $6,500+ for a premium dual boiler. For most home users, the $2,500 to $4,000 range offers the best balance of build quality, features and longevity. Don’t forget to budget for a good grinder! Grinding fresh with consistent grind particle size is important for consistency.

Yes. Making the perfect Espresso requires a fine and consistent grind compared to other brewing methods. A separate coffee grinder also minimises heat transfer from the coffee boilers to your grind burrs, reducing the amount of oils which will split from coffee grounds. If your budget is tight plan on buying small amounts of commercial ground coffee (from a local roaster) until your budget allows for the purchase of an espresso grinder. We recommend pairing your machine with a quality burr grinder – browse our coffee grinders or check our machine and grinder packages for matched pairings.

PID stands for Proportional-Integral-Derivative – it’s a digital temperature controller that keeps your boilers at a precise and stable temperature. Without a PID boiler temperature can fluctuate several degrees which will affect shot consistency. Most mid-range prosumer machines now include a PID as standard.  It’s especially valuable on dual boiler machines where you can adjust your two boilers independently.  On single boiler machines, the PID enables a more consistent brewing start point but extraction temperature will still vary as water enters your boiler to replenished what is taken out throughout the extraction.

Many prosumer machines offer both water tank and mains water connection options. By connecting your coffee machine to your mains water supply you never need to fill the water tank manually. It requires a water line near your setup and basic plumbing work, along with appropriate inline water filtration. Machines like the Bezzera BZ16R are plumbed-only, while most others give you the option to do either.

We recommend a professional service every 12 to 18 months for daily home use. Regular servicing replaces wear items like group head seals, shower screens, and steam tap gaskets before they cause problems. Between services, regular backflushing (except for traditional lever machines) will keep your machine performing well. Visit our servicing page for fixed-price service details. If your machine is left on all day, 6 monthly services are required.

All new espresso machines come with the manufacturer’s warranty, which typically ranges from 1 to 2 years depending on the brand. We handle warranty claims directly – if something goes wrong, give us a call and we arrange with you a suitable time to bring the machine to our Woolloongabba workshop and we’ll manage the process with the manufacturer.
